“Gratitude attracts more reasons to be grateful!” – Danielle LaPorte

I don’t know about you, but when my mind is in a grateful state I can more readily see opportunities and welcome them into my life than when I feel fearful!

When I feel fearful, I tend to close myself off and shut down emotionally. I’ll struggle to see the positives.

I’ve learned that when I feel negative, I need to breathe deeply, remind myself that things will get better, for they always have in the past.

When I look back on my life, things that I perceived as being terrible setbacks ended up having a positive outcome, many time in very unexpected ways.

The timing of things usually has worked out far better than I even would have been able to plan for, because the universe has always known what is best for me and my family.

I need to remind myself of this when I feel down.

I remind myself that I have gotten through everything so far!

What creates the most stress when going through change or being faced with a difficult situation?

It’s our thoughts. Our thoughts can consume us with visions of every worst case scenario, and with our fears of how people will perceive us or treat us.

Most of our fears never happen, but they shake us up sometimes more than the event itself.

Our fears are thoughts! Thoughts can be changed!

By changing our thoughts we can change everything!

Step one to changing our thoughts is to find something positive to focus on! Then find a few more positive things so that ONE thing doesn’t become our anchor, but many things becomes our security net.

Our thoughts can have a profound impact on our mental health and well being!

This isn’t just some “self-help mumbo-jumbo”, but is foundational to changing our neural pathways, to changing our brain chemistry from triggering the Amygdala into constant use to helping our brain to become calm and peaceful.

I know from experience that this takes work and perseverance, but I also know that it is do-able to re-train our thought patterns!

You can do this!

  1. It’s tough to watch someone else struggle with the very things that we may have figured out without trying to step on to tell them just what to do, but we learn these lessons when our spirit is ready to accept releasing the worries and the anger instead of holding onto them. Huge milestones for each person who does it!

  2. Agree with you. Gratitude is such an incredible practice that opens our perspectives and ability to find and focus on things going right, to amplify them and discover more things to be grateful for as we keep moving ahead. It is so hard at times to convince others of this, it is their gift to discover.

    1. True! I know when I was going through the worst of my difficulties I had trouble to focus my mind on the positives because I was so far down the rabbit hole of anxiety and depression.

It’s really tough to focus on the positives when the mind is spiraling down. It took a lot of practice and lots of times of picking myself up. It’s hard but doable to change a mindset.

For me it took being sick and tired of feeling so down to make the decision. I guess that’s why it’s hard to convince anyone to do it unless they themselves are ready to take the step?
