Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it!

Quote by George Bernard Shaw, meme by @philosophyflirt

If your life has been at all similar to mine, you have experienced “well-meaning” people telling you that what you want to do is impossible and to just give it up so you don’t get discouraged.

If you feel it in your heart that you need to do something, then hold fast to your dream and step out to do it!

Years ago I was told that my dream to write books was “pie-in-the-sky”. Yes it was overwhelmingly disappointing to hear that from my mother who I wanted to approve of me, but I persisted. I now have completed a few books and working on another.

Who says we CAN’T do something?

Just because we may not know how to do it doesn’t mean we can’t learn how!

When I was trying to format my 1st book for Kindle, there wasn’t much info online to do it, so I had to really search around to find some help online, which I did eventually. Now it has become BIG business, so there are multiple tutorials and templates available to down load.

Here’s a helpful video:

Here’s a great resource page: Kindle Direct Publishing – how to start

Here are some previous post I did, giving my steps for writing. (I don’t follow the “normal” writing formats, my brain doesn’t work that way!

Whatever your dream is, never say never!

If you don’t know how to do it, there are many, many online resources to help you learn the steps!

The rest is up to you!

Remember: only you get to decide if you can do it!

  1. Thank you – this is very good advice, Tamara! We need to try if we want to explore whatever it might be and not let others stop us. We only need to live up to our own expectations and not other people’s;-)Thanks so much for all these interesting links about self publishing – how very helpful! Have a wonderful week!

    1. You’re very welcome! Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, we need to believe in ourselves more and not let other people overly influence us!

  2. A powerful reminder, Tamara! When I was raising my sons alone in Brazil, friends told me I was either crazy or courageous. The majority thought I was crazy. When I set my sight on writing and publishing my first novel here in the USA, the naysayers and disbelievers discouraged me at every step. I stopped telling people that I was a writer.

    1. Thanks Rosaliene! I get it, as single parents we get a lot of pushback and criticism just for being a mom. Years ago I was deemed the source of my daughter’s health issues when in fact they hadn’t given her a test for Celiac disease. The psychologist even told my daughter I was to blame. It seems society is only too happy to blame moms and label them adversely. Kudos to you for raising your boys!

I get it about the naysayers wanting to dampen writing dreams! I was outright laughed at when I had replied to their question what I was writing in my very tiny notebooks, and mocked when I had illustrations for my children’s book. People really don’t know what the process is to create a book, and when someone is doing it they’re happy to tell us we’re going to fail. I suppose that’s something they’ve been able to succeed in, diminishing others?

Keep going Rosaliene! Put their words out of your mind, you’ve already accomplished far more than they ever thought possible for you!

    1. Thanks Dr. Stein!

Even if someone says what has been written about before, they bring their unique voice and points of view into play, and thus reach a whole new audience segment.

Some of the most successful people are those who build on the ideas of those who came before them.

We never know who may add to the cumulative and overall knowledge base, because often the discoveries are made during the process. We can have an idea before we start, but it is the process itself that pulls out the necessary details.

This is why it’s awful to discourage people from trying, for we can’t know ahead of time who will succeed and who won’t.

Thanks for lending your voice of support!

  3. Indeed they should not kind lady. And still writing away merrily but still not happy with its direction. It’s like I’ve complicated something easy…but if I don’t explain it, we’re all lost 🤣 But thank you for the video, any help is a Godsend in that direction 🤗❤️🙏
