Like you, I have had some very negative people in my life.
I’ve also had the pleasure of being with positive people.
Prior to doing my own inner work to deal with long-term anxiety and depression, when I was around positive people I felt ill at ease and uncomfortable.
Perhaps you have felt the same way and thought that it meant that you just shouldn’t be around positive folks?
I know I did. I questioned if I could be around them and ever feel comfortable because their frame of reference was so very different from mine.
Now that I’ve done a lot of inner work on myself, I’ve come to realize that my discomfort was because I had no experience feeling positive in my own skin.
I found that part of my methods to teach myself to like myself and to heal from the traumas and the abuses from my past also helped me to develop a positive outlook by having created a positive inner space.
After I walked through this transformation within myself I found that I enjoyed being around positive people because I now had experience with it and could relate to it!
If you wish to start on this path yourself, start with practicing suspending judgement of yourself and speaking gently to yourself.
Find positive quotes or affirmations to infuse positive thoughts into yourself. Do check out Louis Hay’s site for positive affirmations!
Be gentle and patient with yourself, for it takes time!

I love how you write so clearly and transparently about your experiences. I can relate to each word you say. I too took a long time to realize the difference in frame of reference that people around me have. The quote that you have in the beginning is so deceptively simple. Everyone would like to believe that they fit that criteria LOL but I am realizing it is in my power who I spend my time with :))

The more I learn, the more I’m amazed at how much power we each have over our healing, our inner being, the people we’re around, the thoughts we choose and the choices we make! I used to find that thought extremely overwhelming, perhaps because it all felt to out of control to me!
