“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” – Leonard Cohen
When we’ve suffered we build walls to keep the hurt out, then we pretend that the outside of the wall, the facade facing others is far more prefect than how we actually feel inside, for inside we may be crying, hurt and angry!
Perfect people don’t exist, so trying to be one is futile, as we end up losing pieces of ourselves in this quest! Strange isn’t it?
Perfectionism is a reaction to having been hurt, criticized and damaged by that hurt, so we overcompensate to try to overdo our way into acceptance and love!
We won’t achieve the acceptance we crave from others unless we learn to love and accept ourselves!
This isn’t something that other people will take our hand and help us with, it’s something we need to teach ourselves to do! This allows the loving light of the universe to heal our hearts!
How can we teach ourselves to do something we have no idea how to do?
It takes baby steps, repeated many times!
Start by being kind with yourself! You are precious! You are loved and cherished by the universe!
Most of my posts speak of how to do this very thing, the task of learning to love and accept ourselves, because it is a vital part of becoming our best selves! I share the wonderful quotes which helped my spirit to heal and renew.
I have leaned heavily on Maya Angelou’s quote, “When I know better, I do better.” Other people whose quotes I have internalized have come from Louise Hay, Dr. Wayne Dyer along with many other people whose wisdom has helped me on each step of my journey.
The thought that these writers experienced what I was feeling and wrote wise words about it, showing the solution, spoke to me. I felt I wasn’t so alone with my feelings, that other wise people had felt them and had healed and become whole, so I felt I could too.
If we only read a quote and smile, it has cheered us and lifted us, but if we internalize the message, we learn and grow, piece by piece until slowly we are healed!
Wishing you well upon your journey!
Got some more reading to help and encourage you:
- Be gentle with yourself, you’re doing the best you can!
- The heaviest burdens that we carry are the thoughts in our head.
- When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
- Nobody talks about this part… these are called growing pains.
- Is suffering necessary? Yes and no.
- Respect your body when it’s asking you for a break. Respect your mind when it’s seeking rest.
- Do not become small for people who refuse to grow!
- Don’t be afraid to start all over again. You may like your new story better.
- An authentic life does not require anyone else’s approval for your creative choices
- Just because you’re struggling does not mean you’re failing

- Your journey will be much lighter and easier if you don’t carry your past with you!
