“Some day, doing “the best we can” may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect – on ant front – and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.” – Fred Rogers
Well isn’t it true that our expectations can outweigh our abilities or our inner resources?
I speak a lot about doing what is do-able now, and build towards what we want to do. This is especially true during times of stress, illness or other troubles.
Being realistic about our abilities helps us to honor our bodies, minds and spirits so we don’t overextend ourselves during times we need to go slower!
There’s always going to be ebbs and flows with our mental and physical energy, and by working with our limitations abilities, we’re actually setting ourselves up for long term success!
I learned this years ago when I suffered with chronic Shingles for 10 years, where I had more eruption episodes than I had days without.
I learned how crucial the mind-body connection is to health. I learned that our immune system controls so many health issues and when we build our immune system we help our bodies alleviate many health issues.
So what can we do for ourselves when we’re not feeling ourselves?
- Get plenty of rest and sleep
- Eat nutritious foods
- Add supplements to boost your nutrition and help your body and mind to heal
- Google “top supplements for the immune system” to read about what can be of help
- Exercise gently and moderately
- Take “me time” to do your favorite hobby and activities
Practice reading and telling yourself positive things and affirmations!
Our spirits require positive input! Our inner batteries can get depleted; that’s when we get overwhelmed and discouraged, for anxieties and feeling down about ourselves isn’t based in reality but the lies our mind starts to tell us when it is tired and overwhelmed.
Isn’t that interesting?! Did you realize this connection before, and were you taking good care of yourself?
Take this as your permission to do so!
It’s quite amazing what our best can become when we follow these points, and how we can come through our trials in better shape than we might have otherwise!
