We get to choose our thoughts!
We get to choose our attitudes!
These aren’t just foisted onto us, unwillingly, even though it may feel like it if we’re out of practice of choosing them ourselves!
Too often we can feel haunted or overwhelmed by the past and by the negative thoughts which often accompany them. If we’re still raw or if we haven’t learned some healthy mental health skills, these thoughts can feel like they’re just a tidal wave rushing in and taking over.
With practice and learning some new skills it is possible to start choosing new thoughts and attitudes!
It takes time.
Please practice being gentle with yourself during this time of learning. Please practice suspending judgement of yourself also!
These are important first steps!
Our thoughts don’t need to abuse us!
Our thoughts can become supportive, friendly and helpful for us!

I agree and enjoyed the first steps you pointed at – being gentle with ourselves and suspending judgment are a great beginning towards our ability to choose our thoughts.

I found these steps to be crucial in my own life. When I wasn’t doing that I was saying very mean things to myself and making myself feel so much worse. Simply teaching myself to do that helped tremendously!!
