This is a very difficult quote to read and accept if you’re still experiencing abuse or the effects of the abuse.
I know, because this quote was very difficult to look at much less to be able to feel it as a personal truth. I was too broken. I was too raw. I had internalized years of abuse, negativity and criticism to be able to feel uplifted at the thought of seeing what I had experienced as a gift. Period.
This was a quote I shook my head at for years while I went through my healing journey.
Now that I’ve come through from the dark side to the sunny side, I understand what he means, for when we go through all of our trials, when we go through our hard-won healing, we develop life skills we never would have learned had we not gone through those experiences.
Apparently I chose (as do we all) my trials before coming into this life. I don’t think I’d ever want to choose those things again, thank you very much, but I did develop strength, resilience, understanding and skills I didn’t have before, and never would have chosen to learn, considering what my teachers were going to be.
I now rejoice in all the lessons, for they enrich my life so that I can live in gratitude, happiness, and joy!
As you go through your healing, choose. Choose to grow in wisdom and compassion towards yourself and the world around you!
Choose to remember that you’re a very important part of the universe, and the lessons you’re learning are exactly what you and others need! You’re needed, so choose to take a peek at the awesome person you’re growing into!
