I listened to part of a webinar with Ken Honda (https://kenhonda.com/courses/) and hosted by Vishen Lakhiani, Founder of Mindvalley and was astounded to hear that the foundation of Ken’s teachings for financial freedom is developing a grateful heart to money!
Specifically he said that he learned from his mentor to say “Arigato”, which is “Thank you”, to all money coming into his life, as well as money flowing out, for he sees it as a blessing for others.
He says by practicing saying thank you to our money, we develop a sense that money flows through our lives, like the air we breathe, and that helps us to heal our relationships with money.
For years I have been working on healing my inner spirit, and developing the life where I feel happy and mindfully am able to feel grateful for all the help and blessing the universe provides.
His inner thought process fits well within this narrative, and takes it a step higher. I acknowledge that while my relationship with money has gotten better as I’ve been working on my healing, I see that I can learn from a multi-millionaire how to see money in the light of gratitude!
When I was a kid, my mother’s relationship with money negatively affected me. She was very tight with money and equated saving money or holding onto it with almost piousness and possessing a better character than other people who spent money on “frivolous” things. There was a lot of judgementalism and negativity towards anyone who didn’t follow her parsimonious lifestyle, and her view of frivolous were other people’s necessities.
Since she had also been my abuser and had severely criticized me through my life, I incorporated all that into my relationship with money. I self-sabotaged myself throughout my life due to this unhealthy and warped inner sense of self.
Bringing the practice of daily gratitude into my life was one of the things which helped heal my spirit. I’ve been working on healing my inner relationship to money, removing the stigmas and the taboos which my mother’s influence had placed.
As you know from your own life, our relationship with money is tied to our self-worth and our inner damage.
Ken Honda teaches that we need to heal our relationship with money for abundance to flow through our lives AND to feel satisfied with every level we’re at.
Having a lot of money in the bank doesn’t mean a person is satisfied with their life or feels they have “enough”, it is through our healed relationship with money we in turn develop a deeper satisfaction with where our lives are at!
Due to our inner damage, he says 3 types of people are produced: those who control money and everything out of a sense of losing it; those who fear it, calling it evil; and those who are indifferent to it and try to ignore it.
None of those prototypes are healthy, and each one can bring deep problems into our lives and relationships.
Gratitude is a key
So, gratitude plays more of a role in our lives than we could have imagined!
“Whatever happens, you can say thank you. Thank you are two most powerful words that will help you to start to transform your relationship with money.” – Ken Honda
I don’t know about you. but I want to put what he says into practice in my own life! Vishen Lakhiani said he did it and he was astonished to see how his whole perception of money completely changed, how he was then able to FEEL the abundance and the flow all around himself!
So henceforward, I’m going to practice thanking my money as it comes in and as it goes out! I know it sounds corny, it looks a little corny as I write these words, but really, what do I have to lose?
No one needs to know when I’m doing it because I don’t need to say it out loud, I can speak it in my mind and my heart!
So far, practicing Gratitude has brought so much into my life and has helped me tremendously… and I used to scoff that doing that would help my anxiety or my depression! I was so wrong! :-))
