The present moment is the only moment available to us, and it is the door to all moments.

“The present moment is the only moment available to us, and it is the door to all moments.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Mindfulness is all about living in the present moment, not living in the past, or in imagined negative scenarios of the future.

When we practice living in the moment, we reduce our anxiety and even depression! We focus on our breathing so it feels calm, we focus on our thoughts so we choose positive ones we focus on our muscles so we’re not tensing up.

Living in the present moment doesn’t mean we don’t plan for the future, it actually helps give us clarity to see what we need to do in the future!

I used to be a worrier, not realizing I was worrying… I thought about different possible scenarios and tried to plan out how I should react in any given scenario. That’s exhausting! It’s depleting! It reduced my sense of self worth in a way too, because I was always trying to second-guess what would happen, because I FEARED I wouldn’t be able to handle what would come up. I felt I needed to prepare, almost like trying to script my life.

When I released the need to do all that behavior, I found I needed to keep reassuring myself that I had the skills to handle what would come along, that I’d be able to handle it.

My weapons against self-doubt, anxiety and worry?

I focused on being in the moment and becoming aware of my breathing, my thoughts, my muscle tenseness. When I felt my body starting to react with symptoms of anxiety, I’d speak gently to myself!

I learned from Louise Hay, Dr, Wayne Dyer and other sages, to speak their encouraging and inspiring quotes to my soul. With time I rewired my thoughts and reactions, so that I could respond positively to new situations and events. I also learned that I have the abilities to handle life, as it happens, without needing to pre-think how I’d respond!

The resulting calmness, joy, and peace was worth the work it took to teach myself to do this!

Trust me, it takes practice! We don’t just read something, “get it” right off the bat and forever more change! It takes practice!
