Health does not always come from medicine. Most of the time it comes from peace of mind, peace in the heart, peace of the soul. It comes from laughter and love.
Does this sound corny? Sound New-Agey or like “Ye Olde Time” remedies?
As improbable as it may seem, as it contradicts what Western medicine, it’s actually true!
Medically speaking, when we’re stressed our bodies produce stress chemicals such as Cortisol which has now been shown to trigger health ailments such as high blood pressure, heart issues, insomnia, to name a few.
Here’s what the Mayo Clinic has to say: Chronic stress puts your health at risk
Cortisol also curbs functions that would be nonessential or detrimental in a fight-or-flight situation. It alters immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system and growth processes. This complex natural alarm system also communicates with the brain regions that control mood, motivation and fear.
When the natural stress response goes wild:
The body’s stress-response system is usually self-limiting. Once a perceived threat has passed, hormone levels return to normal. As adrenaline and cortisol levels drop, your heart rate and blood pressure return to baseline levels, and other systems resume their regular activities.
But when stressors are always present and you constantly feel under attack, that fight-or-flight reaction stays turned on.
The long-term activation of the stress-response system and the overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones that follows can disrupt almost all your body’s processes. This puts you at increased risk of many health problems, including:
Anxiety
Depression
Digestive problems
Headaches
Heart disease
Sleep problems
Weight gain
Memory and concentration impairmentThat’s why it’s so important to learn healthy ways to cope with your life stressors.
When we practice calming our minds and hearts so we feel peace, and when we live from a place of laughter and love, we help our bodies produce Oxytocin, Dopamine, Endorphins or Serotonin, which help us feel better.
I’m not dispensing any medical advice, so if you want to learn more about these wonderful chemicals and what roles they play in our health, please look them up on reputable medical sites!
Even if you don’t want to research the science, know that our moods, emotions, stress levels and thoughts affect our bodies both in the short term and the long term.
So, working on healing a damaged spirit from abuse, working on anger issues and what the triggers are, as well as rebuilding a poor self image are all important pieces to the puzzle which make up your negative responses in life!
It’s difficult to feel happy or to allow the happiness to reside deep within us when we’re busted up inside, isn’t it?
How does healing start?
Start by being kind and gentle with yourself.
Start by with holding the judgemental inner voice which wants to tear a strip off you up one side and down the other.
Start by praising yourself when you do something, even if it’s to try!
Keep trying! Keep putting one foot in front of the other!
You can do this! It’s do-able! It just may take a little time!
You too can know a peaceful heart and mind!
Here’s more positive stuff:
- Just do your best with what you have, at this time!
- Gratefulness brings Abundance!
- Always believe that wonderful things can happen!
- Things are being worked out for the best!
- For everything I am not there is something that I am.
- Positive thinking must be followed by positive doing.
- If someone offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes then learn how to do it later.
- Don’t be pushed by your problems; be led by your dreams.
- Butterflies cannot see their wings, but the rest of the world can!
- Self-worth is so vital to your happiness. If you don’t feel good about you, it’s hard to feel good about anything else.
- If you absolutely can’t stay positive, don’t go negative, just cruise neutral for a while
- Don’t quit on you!
- Just be as strong as you feel capable of right now!
- You’re not selfish for wanting the same energy and love you give.
- You must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be.
- Do small things with great love.
- Build someone up. Remind them they’re worthy.
