Toilet seat: up or down? Why is this still an issue?

**This week I choose a silly post to distract myself from other serious issues going on in my life and around me.**

This is a silly issue, but in the comments sections of various internet posts (yes, I have been reading them!), men and women are still discussing whether the toilet seat should be left up or down.

Some people are really leaning into the whole male vs. female needs points of views; I find it amusing and disturbing how so many people seem so very angry about “being forced” to do what the other gender wants them to do, and only a few are stating the obvious, that it’s a hygiene issue

If you need to read more:

Us vs. them thinking always is blind to other options

The us vs. them way of thinking goes across so many lines. People love to argue their position that they’re right and the other person is wrong, when in reality the answers or solutions are multiple and aren’t limited to this choice or that choice.

When we add a whole layer of partisan, religious ideals or plain misinformation onto certain choices, we fail to see there are in fact other very valid and viable choices.

Hope you have a great week!

  1. Enjoyed the post and loved the memes. I think with the toilet seat thing, it’s more about what it represents i.e does this person care about you to do something that would make your life easier. Personally, I don’t care that much about it but I do get why it causes debates.

    1. Thanks, yes, that’s the fight people are choosing to use as their hill to die on, and I understand each side. I think they’re missing the point that there may be a totally different side, which is entirely neutral but very important to each side. Glad you liked the memes!

  2. What a great, lighthearted post. You’re absolutely right, though. Black and white thinking won’t get us very far in interpersonal relationships.

    1. 😉 I needed a lighter post this week, and when I saw some comments I figured more people could get a chuckle. Glad you liked it!

  3. Yes, it is a silly issue and there is plenty of room for that. At the same time, I believe there are other issues of right and wrong that go beyond questions of partisanship. We have and need courts of law for such things. Indifference to our responsibility to our fellow men and women is a test that measures each of us, whether we admit it or not.

    1. Yes, you’ve worded it in a very clear way, thank you. Indeed, those issues are a test and a revelation of who we are.

  4. Yes, a silly issue, and that is fine. My mind is drawn to such things a bit, I will admit, but I also believe that there are some levels of human behavior that can be fairly judged beyond questions of partisanship, about which we cannot be indifferent lest harm of our fellow men and women will occur.

    1. Exactly! This! We reveal who we are every day. Even when we think no one is watching.

  5. We have always closed the toilet lid before flushing for sanitary reasons. If one allows the lid to stay up the toilet water can spray out up to six feet! Ew! Just ew!

  6. Ok, this one has me bamboozled. I’m a male and I live by myself…but I swear I go into the loo and half the time the seat is up, and half the time its down. I’m either very confused or someone has a camera in there laughing their a**es off 🤣❤️🙏

    1. Welp, maybe try for 100% closed, so you’re not going to get aerosolized stuff on your toothbrush etc?!
