“You don’t understand… I’m just not as strong as you are!”
“I’d never have the guts to do that!”
“I couldn’t do that!”
“Whaaat, that’s just not me!”
“I don’t think I can!”
How many times have you told yourself or someone else a variation of the above reactions when talking about doing something you feel inadequate to do?
We generally underestimate our own abilities and capabilities, allowing our fears to filter out what we’d love to do, or oppositely, feeling able to handle a difficulty life has thrown at us.
Whether it’s something we secretly dream of doing or something we’ve been thrust into, we have WAY more capacity to handle and even excel at the activity or task than we give ourselves credit for!
Sometimes we only discover our capacity to do something by stepping in and doing it!
Going back to school after a long break of living life? Raising kids after a death or divorce? Living life as a single again? Losing everything? Going through rehabilitation? Becoming clean and sober? Deciding to live who you are inside in your outside life? Changing jobs? Starting a business?
All of these things can create immense walls of fear in our minds, preventing us from seeing ourselves as capable, which can be paralyzing.
Our fears can cause us to stall, to not move forward, to not find the solutions to create a plan to move forward!
We’re all actually far more capable of doing what we want or need to do, we just don’t know it yet!
Fear is our greatest enemy, not our capacity to do something!
You can do this! You are capable! You are awesome!
