The secret to a fabulous life!

The real secret to a fabulous life is to live imperfectly with great delight!

Unknown

Even if we totally reject the picture perfect images that people love to pretend are their lives, we’ve pretty much internalized the pressure to be successful, pulled-together, have lots of disposable income and be great in the kitchen and bedroom to boot!

We internalize outside influences so that we feel we need to perform at least as well as the medium level of operating person, just to feel okay about ourselves. That’s a lot of pressure we put on ourselves right?

What if we were to accept ourselves for who we are right now, knowing we’re a work in progress, and just take a step back from the inner madness to just enjoy where we are right now?

What would that look like to you?

Is it okay to love ourselves if we’re not perfect, if we don’t match up with the image we criticize ourselves for not being?

Is it okay to love ourselves even if we don’t do a lot of things well?

Do we need to be so hard on ourselves when our actions or life doesn’t match up to our ideal?

What if we were to just stop speaking harshly to ourselves for ONE day and instead embrace who we are right now, and give ourselves a lot of praise for even accomplishing HALF of what we set out to do?

What would happen if you were to suspend judgement of yourself for just ONE day and spend a day speaking kindly to yourself?

This is am amazing experiment to try, if you have never done it!

So go ahead and try it for ONE day!

…okay, let’s pretend you did this!

Having a day where we feel good about ourselves, accept ourselves for who we are right now leads to wanting more days like this!

When we start having days like this, it becomes easier and easier with practice. The trick is to practice it one day at a time!

Mess up part way through and fall into old habits of speaking harshly to yourself?

It’s okay, because at any moment you can choose to press the re-set button!

Okay, so those are the basic starting points!

The next phase is to practice being joyful and happy with yourself and your life right now, knowing that you are doing the baby steps to move things forward!

Give yourself permission to do things in small doable steps, keeping your eyes on where you want to go!

Give yourself permission to enjoy the journey, taking some needed time to just have some fun doing stuff that brings you joy!

Relax! You got this!

Remember, even if you go slowly, you will still get there, but you’ll be less stressed and have more fun along the way!

    1. It’s a lesson we learn as we get older, that being perfect isn’t a great goal!

    1. Thanks Rita for both! Yes, imagine a world where we all learned to speak kindly to ourselves! Imagine the anger slipping away!

  1. Loved the post and that quote on the image! We’re all imperfect and instead of chasing perfection we need to just try our best and be happy. I love that you mentioned having smaller, doable goals because those are so much easier to achieve that unrealistic big goals.

    1. This is such a huge thing! I’m thrilled you achieved this! It eluded me for so long, I really had no idea how to do the beginner steps to achieve it. Once done, it is amazing!

I will post an essay on optimism later today, taken from a different angle. I hope you and your readers enjoy it.
