Let yourself be drawn by what you really love; it will not lead you astray!

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”

I’ve been trying to weigh my choices in life lately by listening to what I feel will bring me joy; does it spark a feeling of wishing to do it, be there or even eat it? Hehe, depending on what I’m choosing!

I don’t want to make choices solely of the logical merits, but to take my inner spirit into account. I’ve done so many things in my life which took so much out of me and which didn’t light up my heart, but which took their toll on me mentally and physically.

Now that I’ve reached a certain age, I wish to spend my time doing the things which make my heart sing! Does this mean I feel I’ve reached a point where I’ve “earned” the right to do the things which bring me joy?

That might be the reasoning why many choose to delay doing what they would enjoy until, say, retirement because there’s an unspoken “rule” in hard-working people’s work ethic, that we need to earn our pleasure!

Choosing to do the things which light us up, now rather than later isn’t selfish or frivolous! It’s actually very wise, for a heart which is satisfied and happy with life is a heart which is healthier!

When we deny ourselves the things we dream of doing, we struggle to survive our day-to-day and can choose to self-medicate with food, alcohol or drugs (possibly all 3 for some) and feel resentful towards people who have given themselves permission to do the activities which bring them pleasure.

What do you dream of doing? Would you like to take photos? Do you dream of writing? Has creating art intrigued you? What are you dreaming of, but keep putting off?

Follow your joy! Take the first step! Go for it!
