What if we COULD do something for our environment?

Do you want to but just don’t know how? (See below for lists of links to find out more information.)

For so many years we have been negatively serenaded with fearful, doomsday predictions of what will happen to our plane if we don’t change our ways, that we’ve kind of become immune and numb to it all. “Yeah, yeah,” we think, “I am just a drop in the bucket, what real good can I do?” So we continue scrolling or flip to a fun series to watch.

Hollywood got into the doomsday game with massive feature films that portrayed cataclysmic environmental events, such as “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004). We love watching disaster movies, they’re big and over the top, but when we come back to our everyday lives, because we’re just not seeing those types of disasters, we dismiss the environmentalists as a bunch of alarmists.

Bioneers is one of those organizations that is doing a whole lot of good, and they’re training people to see how they can help in their communities. One person may not be able to accomplish a whole lot, but together? We could probably do a lot!

Bioneers

Bioneers is my favorite environmental organization, and they’ve created a brand new newsletter to keep you informed about the different and latest environmental efforts.

I worked for Nina, one of the co-founders, and saw how dedicated each person connected with the organization is.

Who is Bioneers? In their words:

It’s all alive. It’s all connected. It’s all intelligent. It’s all relatives.

Bioneers is inspiring and realizing a shift to live on Earth in ways that honor the web of life, each other and future generations.

Bioneers is an innovative nonprofit organization that highlights breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet. Founded in 1990 in Santa Fe, New Mexico by social entrepreneurs Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons, we act as a fertile hub of social and scientific innovators with practical and visionary solutions for the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges.

A celebration of the genius of nature and human ingenuity, Bioneers connects people with solutions and each other. Our acclaimed annual national conference and local Bioneers Network events are complemented by extensive media production including a vibrant online media presence, award-winning radio and podcast series, book series, and role in third-party media projects such as Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie The 11th Hour and Michael Pollan’s best-selling book The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

Our dynamic programs and initiatives focus on game-changing initiatives related to Restorative Food Systems, Biomimicry, Rights of Nature, Indigeneity, Women’s Leadership and Youth Leadership.

In 2017, Ausubel and Simons were honored for the work of Bioneers by Japan’s Goi Peace Award, whose past recipients include Bill Gates, scientist James Lovelock of the Gaia Hypothesis, Nigerian pro-democracy activist Hafsat Abiola-Costello and Deepak Chopra.”

  1. Beautifully stated Mark! We have much to learn and then to teach. The population has been growing exponentially and the effects are multiple around the world. We have much to learn, to change to be able to pass on a better world!

    1. Pretty cool isn’t it? They’re doing great work with people from around the world, people take the knowledge home with them and help to build their communities better and greener.

    1. Exactly! This is a group who attracts people from all around the world to attend their annual conference both to share and to learn from one another, the best practices for sustainability, permaculture, green practices for agriculture and our communities. People then go back to their countries and communities to teach and implement what they have learned.

    1. Thanks Rosaliene! Together we can make a difference, and it’s nice to know that there are like-minded people around the world who live that way and are striving to make a difference in their communities. Isolated we might not be able to do a lot, but working together, we can!

  2. This is so neat, Tamara! Thank you for sharing!! Bioneers is new to me, but looks to have some great information and programs, and an inspired and hopeful approach. It helps so much to look toward the future — what can we do today to empower future generations, even if we don’t live to see the benefits ourselves. ❤️

    1. Yes, exactly! We can learn from them and go into our communities with more knowledge. They have many resources for us. Like you said, this will be a generational effort, not just to turn things around, but to help keep it that way!

  3. Thank you for enlightening me about this organization, Tamara. Yes, the scientific messengers offer a grim prediction. Less than that would be even more dangerous, since they share the best knowledge they have.

If we read the news, look for the once plentiful Monarch butterflies, and recognize the changes in weather patterns, the evidence of the problem is there to be seen.

Both they and we must educate ourselves about our future and that of our children and grandchildren so that we work together, as you have suggested. Thank you so much for courageously raising a topic about which many are in denial.

    1. Indeed Dr. Stein, this is something we prefer to ignore. We’re tired from all the doomsday prophecies, and feel helpless individually, but when we can connect with groups and people who are teaching more sustainable ways of living, we can find the strength to push forward.

The signs are definitely around us, but it feels safer to ignore. If people learn there are many people just like them around the world who are working towards these positive goals, it have help them to find strength and solace ,to find like-minded people to work with.

  4. And as each generation passes it onto the next it expands exponentially, and the earth changes. Ever enough to heal what was and become what our hearts project. May it be so Tamara, as we teach those that follow 🤗❤️🙏
