Happiness doesn’t start with a relationship, a vacation, a job or with money. Part 1

Live a happy life

“”Happiness doesn’t start with a relationship, a vacation, a job, or with money.
It starts with your thinking and what you tell yourself everyday!” – Unknown

Our consumerist lifestyles are fueled by thinking we need ABC, XYZ and every other goodie promoted by influencers, the media, our friends and a lot of them for good measure.

If we seem to have less that others, we’ve been trained to feel a sense of lack.

There are many who profiteer from this artificial sense of lack. They pay expensive marketing companies and influencers to keep this process going.

Economists have taught our CEO’S that constant increases in profits are essential to the health of a business.

We have all bought into this on one level or another, whether we’re selling or buying!

Behind the scenes, people are unhappier than ever, experiencing more mental health stresses, and struggling to cope with not being able to keep up with expectations.

I have found that what I say to myself has a direct impact on how I feel about my life.

When I was younger I had received a lot of criticism and verbal abuse which I had internalized.

As a result, I became very adept at saying harsh things to myself.

My negative self-talk could get me spiraling down the proverbial rabbit -hole, where I’d become a sobbing mess, depressed, anxious, and unable to see the positive in my life.

“It starts with your thinking and what you tell yourself everyday.”

I found the way out of that was to work hard on rewiring my thoughts. I had to catch myself when I was about to something nasty to myself.

That was very difficult, because I had become so adept at it I could do it without even thinking about it!

My self doubt was so ingrained that I self-sabotaged when things looked as though they were about to pick up. Afterwards I got to beat myself up some more, because I had proved to myself that my negative thoughts were right!

Our thoughts are more powerful than we realize!

The power of our thoughts is grossly underestimated, even dismissed as being unimportant.

I found it useful to write through these moments when I was struggling with negative thoughts. I created the Guided Journals as tools for you to use to not only download your thoughts, but the questions are there to help you see your thoughts and patterns objectively.

Objectivity is your friend in the process to rewire your thoughts!

When we’re too close to the negative thoughts, it’s difficult to separate reality from lies, so we tend to believe the lies because we’ve become conditioned to.

Using a Guided Journal (Anger Journal and the Anxiety Journal) helps in this process to give some objectivity, for when we separate ourselves from the intensity of the emotions, we are able to see solutions where previously we saw none!

We all need to work on training our brains to see things more positively, especially after what we’ve all gone through collectively!

If you’re ready to dig deeper into the issues which got you thinking so negatively about yourself, I recommend working through Developing Happiness When You Can’t Find It.

Here’s a few posts which explain in a little more detail how to start making some inner changes:

Don’t cling to a mistake just because you spent a long time making it.

Brain Rewiring

You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that.

Worrying is using your imagination to create something you don’t want.

Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.

Habit Power: We are what we repeat

Choose to see the good stuff!

Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.

Blessings!

  2. Economists have taught our CEO’S that constant increases in profits are essential to the health of a business – this made me wonder, what it would be like if the definitions of businesses became more wholesome and holistic, operated truly operated in service of human well being … perhaps this is wishful thinking of small service based ‘business’ like us who have so much more conscious heart bases intentions in the work we do. And add to it the negative conditioning you mention just ends up becoming so much of our struggle. Our thoughts and mind are truly so powerful – if only recognize. I am glad and grateful for how much we have managed to turn around in the positive direction.
