“Anxiety, the illness of our time, comes primarily from our inability to live in the present moment.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
A lot of the strong ANGER we’re seeing erupting in so many people these days comes from a place of deep inner fears and anxieties.
When this level if fear and anxiety is expressed by some people, it gets vented out of them as ANGER, for giving way to one’s anger gives one a temporary sensation of taking control of the situation.
However, as we all know, strong expressions of anger usually comes out in a very destructive way.
How can we deal with our fears and anxieties so they don’t build up to the point of erupting into a tirade?
Our fears and anxieties come up within us when we envision all types of problems and negativity in our futures.
Probably 95% of what we’re getting ourselves worked up about won’t actually occur, yet we will spend close to 100% of our mental energies worrying, stressing and getting worked up about them
When we convince ourselves that what we’re getting worked up about is going to happen, then for many, the need to find someone to blame for all their mental anguish becomes necessary.
In more extreme situations, people feel pushed to the edge with their fears and anxieties, and will seek to take it out on whomever they feel “deserves” their full wrath.
We’re hearing and watching as story after story is presented in the news, of people whose fears fermented into anger, which in turn blew up into a tragedy.
Underneath each tragedy is someone whose mental health took such a deep hit from the narrative of the onslaught of negativity their fears and anxieties took on their spirits.
When we start to look at our fears and anxieties, and teach ourselves that 95% of what we’ve been envisioning WON’T EVER HAPPEN, we can start to LET THEM GO!
Letting go of our fears and anxieties then takes us out of projecting our minds into the future, and helps to bring us back to the present moment!
In dealing with my own fears and anxieties, I found that reading positive quotes helped to infuse inspiration into my spirit.
Once I started to feel more hopeful, drawing from the strength from the words of others, I was slowly able to start speaking positive , reassuring words to myself.
In the beginning it didn’t feel natural as my brain was fighting against the new direction I was pushing myself into. With time, repetition and mindful persistence I was able to slowly retrain my brain from automatically worrying and becoming anxious, to becoming more optimistic, and later on, joyful!
Trust me, this is quite a process!
You’ll need some good tools to help you through this journey, because simply trying to tell ourselves to do things differently rarely gives the results we crave, them we tend to blame ourselves.
