“Happiness starts with you. Not with your relationships, not with your job, not with your money, but with you.” – Unknown
We search for happiness in so many places, yet it needs to start within us.
We start by working on changing our mental and emotional outlook on ourselves and how we see our lives.
When we don’t see ourselves in a positive light, we have difficulties allowing ourselves to feel happy because we consciously or subconsciously feel we don’t deserve it.
We self-sabotage to prove our negative judgements of ourselves are correct, effectively continuing the cycle we crave to end!
We come to these negative perceptions about ourselves from the damage we incurred from our pasts. We come to believe the lies and keep them going by judging ourselves and punishing ourselves.
Working on healing from the tentacles of the past is the best gift we give ourselves to become able to develop happiness.
This work doesn’t need to be done in one weekend, you can take all the time you need!
The how’s? Well, that fills an entire book!
Start on this journey soon! It starts when you decide it does!

I am smiling thinking to myself about all those things that I am waiting on happening/doing in life – I admit that the feeling is they would make me happy. Yet I am also grateful that I am at a place of immense gratitude for where I already am. I am happy with myself and also I desire some experiences that would make me happy 🙂

Oh absolutely! Having goals which give us joy and set our hearts aflutter are so important to have!
As Thich Nhat Hanh has said, “Many people think excitement is happiness… but when you are excited you are not peaceful. True happiness is based on peace.”

There is so much packed in that Thich Nhat Hanh quote. I love it and agree with it.

Happiness does indeed start within us. A mistake I’ve often made is seeing an end goal as the solution to happiness like it will create some magical utopia!

Our social media and media in general teach us to view our lives this way! You are in great company, as we all get duped into thinking our happiness will come as an end result! Our negative self talk affects our inner ability to be able to feel happy!

Well said Tamara. It all starts with inside. 😊😊

It took me a long time to learn this lesson, especially healing from the past because I kept self sabotaging myself. Once I became aware of what I was doing to myself I could work on fixing it!
