What new way? What is she referring to?
Our thoughts affect us… they affect the decisions we make and the actions we take. Obvious, right?
If we speak negatively to ourselves, harshly critical of how we look, of our every action, would we be inclined to start something new we want to do?
Or would our fear of failure, of messing things up cause us to procrastinate until we lose interest or the opportunity?
Yes, that’s exactly what happens most of the time, isn’t it?
How can we change out thoughts when they are THERE all the time, deafening us, drowning us in their judgemental awfulness?
Well, simply trying to force them to stop isn’t going to work, but you already know that right?
Let me give you and analogy of the glass of water:
Imagine a tall glass of very dirty water. How can we get clean water into the glass if we can’t pour the dirty water out?
This dirty glass of undrinkable water represents us. It’s representational of our stinking thinking, our inner hurts, our traumas, our pain and guilt, and our inability to feel good about ourselves.
Well, with a physical glass of water, if we place it under a faucet and allow the fresh water to keep flowing into it, eventually the clean displaces the dirty!
Even if the fresh water is a trickle, over time it will become clean!
With the allegory of the glass of water representing us, the process of ‘pouring clean water’ into our minds and spirits represents the new thoughts we need to develop and practice.
It means that we need to mindfully pour in the positive in order to gradually dissipate the negative.
This is something we can all achieve over time, and by being patient with ourselves.

Start by speaking positively to yourself. You’ll need to suspend judgement of yourself… try it for a little bit at first.
This is going to take practice, because it won’t feel natural to you! Keep trying!
Find a positive quote or two which you can connect with to uplift yourself. Keep adding more positive quotes and memes to inspire you to feel good about yourself.
Our thoughts are tricky little things! They love to deceive us into believing we’re worthless or useless.
That’s part of the web of lies our brains have accepted as being real, when in fact they’re a gross exaggeration of reality.
When we see, really see that our brains trick us, we can gently tell those thoughts to leave, they’re not wanted because they’re not true.
Speak gently to those thoughts, speak gently to yourself.
You’re retraining your brain to stop activating your Amygdala.
You’re retraining your brain to think rationally about yourself instead to the terrible words you got used to using against yourself.
This takes time and practice!
Keep trying! If you don’t succeed at first, keep trying!
You will succeed!
